Everything Had Changed

The illusion of happiness came to me in a French café

Take a picture, capture the momentary perfection,

That was doomed to fall apart

Because someone doesn’t exist to someone anymore.

Messages exchanged over late night whispers,

Unable to sleep yet again or anymore.

Hatred and self-hatred – who is your friend today?

Another friendship lost but you’re too tired to care.

Caught in the middle again, always the pig

Trying to sew your life back together

With shaking hands as the panic takes over once more.

Tortured by an illusion you created for yourself

As you struggle to adapt to reality.

Its semester one and square one –

How dare I think everything had changed.
