Changes

There comes a time in a young girls life

When she will glance sideways at the mirror

To check the size of two protruding lumps

Some girls push out, others breathe in

Neither will be satisfied.

*

There comes a time in a young girls life

When she will realise her body is not hers alone

It will be objectified and sexualized by strangers

Some who dare think they have a right to touch

And make her soul forever unsafe.

*

There comes a time in a young girls life

When new hormones will fluctuate

To create confusing emotions of sexual desire

Some she will act on, others she won’t

And she will be judged for both.

*

There comes a time in a young girls life

When she will become self aware

And start the comparison of all the other bodies

Who change at different rates too

And she will struggle to love herself.

*

There comes a time in young girls life

When she will teach herself to accept herself

And see a body of more than measurements

Or self worth calculated by hated strangers attention

A time when she can grow up.
