Written Words

Always hiding behind written words –

Verbal restraint is expression in prose.

Riddles and metaphors for personal poetry,

An alphabetical defence shield,

Speaking unspoken words to an invisible audience

Selecting who shall solve the puzzle

To figure out if they’re the solution,

The root of emotion – the first line of the poem.

A conversation made of broken stanzas.

Self-expression that only involves the self,

And a quiet art for the loudest of souls.

  1. Excuse me while I swoon over that last line. Really, over the whole of it. I thoroughly enjoy the thought of setting poetry out as riddles and problems to weed out the person who’s a solution. Soul – ution.
