Alone

I would often find comfort in silence

The absence of voices with nothing good to say

Brings the presence of peace of mind.

Finally alone after a tiring day

Your muscles and mind can now relax.

Escaping into the silence, the emptiness

Where you’re no longer surrounded by people

Who don’t want to be surrounding you.

But sometimes silence creates a noise of its own

An inner buzzing that causes your body to tremble.

Because your desire for silence

Has made it a permanent state.

Running away and no one wanted to chase after you

Sure, what did you ever have to offer?

Finally alone after a tiring day of being alone

And you forget why you once found it appealing.

  1. These lines:
    Because your desire for silence
Has made it a permanent state.
Running away and no one wanted to chase after you.

There are no words for how this effects me. It is my life. Alas, there is greater mistake in settling for not being alone than the sorrow in silence of not being found or pursued.

  2. This is beautiful, Len. If that was a personal one then we vibrate at the same frequency. I spend eight hours of everyday doing something that I despise around people who despise me because of their misconceptions about life. Everyday I just can’t wait to return to my room, lock myself in there and maybe sublimate through a poem or two. Thank you so much for the dense poem. Please, keep writing!
